About the Bride

Kate grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated from Lake Braddock High School in 2002. She went on to graduate from the University of Virginia with her Bachelors's Degree in Government and Bioethics in 2006. Since graduation, Kate has spent the last four years living in Arlington, VA working on international health affairs. Kate loves to travel and feels fortunate that work has taken her many interesting places around the world. Though Kate will always be plotting her next trip (right now, she's saving up for her dream trip to Bora Bora), Kate is thrilled to be settling down in Richmond, VA with Ross and recently accepted a position with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society coordinating special events. Kate is also an avid runner and enjoys running in 10-mile and half-marathon races and she hopes that her and Ross's new puppy, Belle, will be able to join her on runs before too long!

About the Groom

Ross grew up in Chesapeake, VA and graduated from Great Bridge High School in 2002. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 2006 with his Bachelor's in Computer Engineering - he has always had a love for technology and computers and wanted to pursue it professionaly ever since a kid. After graduation, Ross moved to Richmond and has been working as an IT Consultant for CapTech Ventures, Inc. Ross still actively plays soccer and also enjoys running. Last year he ran in his first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, and he is training for the New York City marathon this November. Ross also enjoys traveling and fun trips, and can't wait for the honeymoon (Aruba)!

Our Love Story

Strolling to class everyday in beautiful Charlottesville, VA where we both attended the University of Virginia, we must have crossed paths a million times. Walking down the historic University lawn, attending football games, or in the class that we sat just a few seats apart in--somehow we never met. Several years later, after a fated Facebook message and a first date in DC, we became inseparable. After plunging from the skies over the North Shore of Oahu last summer, an amazing year later, we're ready to take the ultimate plunge and spend the rest of our lives together!

Since we've spent the last year driving up and down I-95 between Richmond, VA and Washington, DC in rush hour traffic to spend weekends together, we are looking forward to "typical days" more than most couples. Most of all, we're looking forward to evening jogs together, learning new recipes together, sharing welcome-home kisses, curling up on the couch enjoying our favorite TV shows, and training our new Border Collie puppy, Belle!

The Proposal

Ross start planning to propose to Kate in early November. After about two months of ring researching and shopping, he finally found what he thought to be the perfect one.

The original plan was for Ross to propose to Kate on their one year anniversary of their first date (February 1) at the same restaurant. Ross created a photo book illustrating the past year together -- it had pictures from all the fun things they did and places they went, with captions to go along.

Ross got a call the second week of January notifying him that the ring was to arrive on Saturday. He also had received the completed photo book that same week. On the Thurdsay night of that week, one of Ross' coworkers called and offered him good seats to a UVA basketball game on Saturday night. Kate had never been to a UVA basketball game - even while in college - and really wanted to go. Then, it all came together. Talked to Kate's Parents + photobook + ring + perfect environment + element of surprise = why not propose early?

Ross quickly set in motion the plans for the evening. His sisters, Joy and Holly, planted the photo book on the steps of the Rotunda. After the game, Ross and Kate were supposed to meet friends out at a bar, but Ross convinced Kate to walk to the Rotunda to see the Lawn at night. When they showed up, the book was neatly wrapped and had Kate's name on it. Ross and Kate sat on the top of the steps and read through the entire book. At the end, Ross got down on one knee and asked Kate to marry him. After about 15 'Oh my gosh!' and even more 'Are you kidding?', Kate finally said 'Yes'!
